Author: Girls Take Action

This morning we had a great science session at Jambur school. We had 160 older high school students who were all extremely appreciative of the chance to try some practical activities. After we’ve sorted our leftover resources, we will hopefully be able to send some there for them to continue to explore science in action.

Some of the typical sights around Kajabang village where we are staying

This evening we popped to the Kajabang women’s community garden where we helped get water from the well to water the crops - there were a few cheeky monkeys watching from a distance!

We rewarded ourselves with some beach time after a hard mornings work, visiting Sanyang beach. Cold drinks all round and some paddling in the warm sea

This afternoon we’ve taught the youth development group about anaemia and some first aid skills. They’ve all taken home a first aid kit and enthusiasm to help in their communities

Today we’re working with 20 young women from the Gunjur youth development group. We covered self esteem and menstrual hygiene. They were both brilliant sessions and our girls were great in leading them!

Camp catering, Gambian style! Our leaders have giant pan envy!

We popped to Nemasu eco lodge after camp to chill out on the lovely beach with a nice cold drink. The girls dipped their toes in the ocean and went to explore the rock pools

Sadly it was time to say goodbye to our friends the Gunjur Guides today. However we were super excited to hear that the 2 ladies who had been the camp cooks have agreed to become new leaders! So our guide group of over 74 girls will have 4 leaders now! This will help to secure the groups future for a good while! Brilliant news!

Sunday afternoon we taught the guides how to make paracord water bottle holders. We showed the leaders some other things they could make with their girls using the leftover cord.
